As we learn the difference between praise and worship, we can become better praisers and worshipers - for God’s pleasure and glory.
“Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name.” (103:1 - NLT)
“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name.” (103:1 - KJV)
1. Praise is a function of the will.
(Ps. 42:5-8) Praise is an obedient act. It is an act of will. We can AND must instruct ourselves to praise. And when we feel worse…when we are dragging…that’s when we must praise! There is something so powerful about the spoken word of praise!
2. Praise can be direct or indirect. Praise is vertical by nature. But we can praise indirectly by the way we live out our lives.
3. Praise is expressive in nature. Thoughts about God have to be put into action to be considered praise.
-Biblical forms of praise:
—1. Lifting hands (Ps. 63:4)
—2. Singing (Ps. 63:5)
—3. Clapping (Ps. 47:1)
—4. Shouting (Ps. 66:1-2)
—5. Standing (2 Chron. 7:6)
—6. Dancing (Ps. 149:3)
—7. Playing of instruments
—8. Kneeling, bowing, and falling prostrate (Ps. 95:6, Rev. 5:6-10, 13-14)
What is the difference?
-Praise is initiated by people and is, typically, expressed outward. It involves every aspect of our being (body, soul, and spirit). And it can become intense.
-Worship is initiated by God through the Holy Spirit. It may or may not be expressed outwardly (be observable). It is, typically, Spirit to spirit. Worship is not possible without the connection of the Holy Spirit with our spirit. Sometimes, worship is the goal of praise. Worship requires relationship (born Spirit to spirit). Worship is responding to the presence of God. Worship is the height of our devotion to God. But worship doesn’t have to be exuberant and heightened with great emotion…it can be difficult at times (Abraham sacrificing Isaac).
We all know someone who thought it would be easier to just give up and stop fighting rather than stick it out and FIGHT THIS FIGHT CALLED LIFE…And we’ve all been in a place in our own lives where we felt overwhelmed by life and all it brings upon us sometimes…but this I know: God loves you and He wants you to FIGHT! But you aren’t fighting alone my dear friends…Jesus said in John 16:33, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” So if you’re feeling low or feeling like you just can’t do it anymore…seek help and SEEK GOD!! He’s not stingy with His presence!! He loves you and He will help you! #suicideawarenessday
